Our Lady of Protection Cross

Sterling silver cross with featuring one of first Christian icons of the Holy Face of Jesus, John the Baptist, the Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas. The other side shows Mary as Our Lady of Protection.

During a siege of Constantinople in the tenth century, St. Andrew, St. Epiphanius, and other faithful gathered before the famous icon of the ‘Holy Protection’ in the Church of Blachernae. They asked for Our Lady's intercession to protect them from the barbarians invading their city. Along with St. John the Baptist, and several other saints and angels, the Mother of God appeared to them and sheltered them under her veil throughout the siege. The danger was averted and the city was spared.
